Shaped by Fog, Wind, Earth and Sea

Welcome to the San Luis Obispo Coast

The elements of the Pacific Coast greatly shape the wines of California’s coolest wine-growing region… Founded by families, visionaries, and craftsmen, we are not afraid to experiment and take risks, and proudly produce hand-crafted wines for all to enjoy.

The San Luis Obispo Coast AVA encompasses roughly 408,500 acres – nearly 4,000 of which are planted with vineyards – and includes within it the Edna Valley AVA (est. 1982) and the Arroyo Grande Valley AVA (est. 1990). Our soils are young, diverse, and complex. They are lean, shallow, and well-draining with hard bedrock below, putting vines through just the right amount of stress to produce fruit with intense color and flavor.

The proximity to the Pacific Ocean creates a distinctly long and cool growing season that allows our fruit to achieve rich, full flavor while maintaining its natural acidity, structure, and balance. The maritime climate prevents peak temperature extremes and limits diurnal temperature shifts during the growing season, leading to significantly longer growing seasons than warmer inland regions, often by many weeks.

Pinot Noir

The region is particularly well-recognized for Burgundian varieties and cool-climate favorites with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay leading the pack. The SLO Coast also makes an excellent home to aromatic white varieties, Rhône varieties, and in our warmer, mountainous areas, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot have been growing strong for decades. The diverse fruit of the SLO Coast is united by an energetic acidity and vibrancy only achieved via our unique set of growing conditions.
